...a journey of a life time through ibn batuta's africa

malaika

malaika is a 1999 model Toyota Landcruiser VXR3, V8 4.7ltr engine with hydraulic suspension, automatic height adjustment, cruise control, leather seats and 6 cd changer. it also came with built in winch, two spare tyres and two tanks (90+55) which should give us an average of 550kms (yes - its a guzzler).

we bought it brand new in 2000 (sale off of previous models), and have taken it across the whole of the arabian peninsula from syria to oman, and across the rub al khali (empty quarter). to us, it is the ultimate 4X4 vehicle with all of the on-road comforts and luxury.

modifications

for our african adventure we have decided to carry out the following modifications:

 - install additional high performance shock absorbers (front)

to alleviate stress on current shocks

 - install high tension springs (rear)

to help malaika carry additional 500kgs

 - install dual battery management system

to help power the winch and the fridge and other gizmos

 - fabricate and install 4 jacking points (2 front, 2 rear)

for the hi-lift jack (standard landcruiser fails miserably in this aspect)
