details

today the group will be going on a mokoro safari on the okavango delta. the okavango delta is africa's largest and most beautiful oasis. the river okavango starts in the highlands of angola and never reaches the sea, but instead the waters empty into the sands of the kalahari desert. a mokoro is a traditional canoe dugout from the trunk of a large straight tree such as a sausage tree or an ebony tree. it is an ideal mode of transport for the delta, moving quietly through shallow water. it is pushed by a boatman using a long pole through narrow channels or cutting through long grasses or papyrus.
