9:00am: livingstone is a quiet town with victoria falls being the main attraction. the group had a lovely dinner last night at the ocean basket and saw an art exhibition at the maramba lodge which is a lovely place. petrol prices are high and there are cues for diesel fuel. they are also being harassed by many child beggars. today, they will be white water rafting on the zambezi river.
7:00pm: what an exciting day filled with pure adventure, fuelled by pure adrenalin! the entire group went white water rafting for 30kms over 23 rapids in the batoka gorge! they were in 8 person rafts and got flipped over three times. it was an awesome experience but at the same time, an element of danger was always lurking in the rushing waters. they went over five, class 5 rapids, class 6 being the hardest and only for experts. they went through rapids named 'stairway to heaven', 'washing machine', 'devil's toilet bowl', and the three wave class 5 'oblivion' which is responsible for the most raft flips in the world and only 1 in 4 attempts succeed! it was an "experience and a half" and all came through it safe and sound but with many exciting stories. they were very tired and will be getting to bed early tonight. tomorrow, they will be heading to botswana, crossing the border at kazungula by ferry. |
* the rush, the adrenalin, the adventure, the excitement of white water rafting! awesome!
* no international roaming signal on their personal phones |
