12:30pm: yesterday, the group explored dar es salaam and visited the local kariako market. both cars were left at the toyota centre for a few days where they will be serviced. in the evening, both families were invited to dinner by naeem gire who is mushtaq's family friend. they went to a restaurant called muchachos to eat delicious mishkaki (grilled boneless meat). at muchacho's, tanzanian friends leila and saydi (who are also living in khobar) joined them for the evening. it was a wonderful social night talking about their adventures. for dessert, they went to naina's for ice cream.
early this morning, the group took the 7:30am ferry, the sea express, to zanzibar where they will be staying for two nights at the mtoni marine hotel. known as the spice island, zanzibar has clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and a history that spans many centuries. the group had just enjoyed a lovely zanzibari lunch at a local restaurant. their hotel is right on the beach and they plan to chill out and swim in the warm indian ocean.
