details

pangani is the zanzibar of the mainland and the town was developed by the arabs as a settlement and slave trading centre. the beaches in the area are beautiful and unspoilt. the town has a history and culture dating back to the 15th century. intricately carved doors, ancient mosques and traditional arab homes can be found in this coastal town.

1:30pm: the group has decided to pass pangani and head to bagamoyo near dar es salaam. bagamoyo was also a slave and ivory trading town. the name comes from swahili "bwaga moyo" meaning 'throw down your heart', an expression of despair used by captured slaves facing a long and uncertain future. stay tuned for further details on their change of plans.

11:30pm: after leaving moshi, the group drove to bagamoyo to see the kaolo ruins. after taking a walk along the beach, they refreshed themselves with a drink of fresh coconut water. from bagamoyo, they drove to dar es salaam for the night. they did a lot of driving today, about 500km and were very tired.
