details

8:30am: camping in the serengeti was very interesting and they got a good night's sleep with the fresh outdoor air. they also met an eight car convoy from south africa that was travelling northward. they were interviewed by the magazine reporter accompanying the convoy on their adventures. a journey is always enhanced by the people you meet along the way and the group is encountering people of all backgrounds. the weather is good and they are on their way to ngorongoro crater passing through olduvai gorge. the gorge is famous for the discovery made by mary leakey of 1.75 million-year-old bones of homo habilis. from olduvai gorge, they will go to ngorongoro crater, a natural amphitheatres created about 2 million years ago when the cone of a volcano collapsed into itself. the crater is 610 metres deep and covers an area of 259 sq km. wildlife thrives in this unique and beautiful creation of nature. tonight they will be camping in simba camp for the night. simba is the swahili word for lions. hopefully none will be joining their camp!

7:40pm: along the way to the crater, the group visited a local masai village were they saw traditional singing and dancing. they arrive safely at simba camp on the rim of ngorongoro crater. the campsite is busy tonight with 30 other tents set-up. it is a very cold night and for dinner, they prepared dhaal (lentils), rice and wahida made tuna biryani. to keep themselves warm, they will be enjoying hot chocolate under the african stars.
