9:00am: the group has made it to tanzania, the fourth african country on their journey. the speke lodge in kenya did not open the gates for them so they decided to drive through the border and stayed in a hotel near the town of tarime. here they enjoyed nice warm showers. they are now about 150km from mwanza which is on the shores of lake victoria and is mushtaq's birth place. the road conditions from the tanzanian border has also improved much to the delight of the drivers.
9:40pm: a very relaxing day for the group as they arrived in mwanza. lunch was enjoyed on the shores of lake victoria and later, mushtaq went to meet his old childhood friends. for dinner, they enjoyed an east african meal of mishkaki (small pieces of freshly bbq boneless meat) near a mosque in mushtaq's childhood neighborhood. tonight they will be staying at the new mwanza hotel and tomorrow they will tend to their cars and make any necessary repairs before heading to the serengeti for a truly african safari. |
