details

 9:30am: last night, the group camped in marsabit

and woke up in the morning to the sounds of baboons and birds. as their journey progresses, they will encounter many wild animals. at their campsite they also met some swiss travelers. after packing up their camping equipment, the group left for their next stop nanyuki. here they will cross the equator. one popular experiment that they will see to prove that this is the equator is to put water in a bucket which has a small hole in the bottom. standing 10m north of the equator sign, the water drains counter clockwise and standing 10m south, the water drains clockwise. standing right under the sign, the water drains straight down. a funky experience. the local inhabitants of this area are from the kikuyu tribe.

11:30pm: today was a very rough and testing drive,  the worst of the journey so far. from marsabit, the road condition was very bad and the cars took a beating. the buraq (johnstones) had a tire burst and the malaika (mahmoods) had three tire punctures! they safely made it to the sportsman arms hotel in nanyuki at the foot of mount kenya and tomorrow, they will have to buy new tires before continuing the journey.

highs

 * crossing the equator

lows

* three tire punctures, two shaken cars and a tire burst to top it all off!
