details

3:00pm: after sleeping inside their cars overnight and enduring heavy rain, the group continued their journey to see the rock churches of lalibela. the town contains eleven rock-hewn 13th century churches. they are carved out of single solid rocks of the wollo mountains and were built by king lalibela. the group described them as "impressive and looked similar to petra in jordan". in the church of st.george, they saw mummies in a burial chamber. this church is carved out separately from the surrounding rock and is in the shape of the greek cross.

10:30pm: currently, the group is slightly behind schedule and were supposed to be in addis ababa for the night. delays can be expected with journeys of this nature where there is so much to see in such beautiful surroundings. after lalibela, they drove through the village of weldiya, stopped briefly in hayk and will be spending the night in the town of dese. dese is about 400km from addis ababa and inshallah, they will reach there tomorrow and will once more be on schedule.
