details
home base 8:00am
june 27: the johnstones made good use of their rooftop tent by camping at
the blue nile sailing club. they enjoyed a nice
breakfast overlooking the great views where the blue and white nile join
together. the mahmoods stayed at the green village hotel as khartoum is
hosting a UN conference and many hotels were fully booked. later, the group will be exploring khartoum, visiting museums and
going to omdurman souq. it is one of the oldest souqs (market) in khartoum
with a traditional atmosphere. everything is available here and along the
long alleys, handicrafts can be purchased, especially african beads,
copperware, gold and silver jewelry, and artwork made from ivory, ebony and
other quality wood.
home base 2:40pm: there is a lot of traffic with
many UN cars visible everywhere. early this morning the group went to see
the river and watch fishermen catch fish from the nile river ... a lovely
photo opportunity. the omdurman souq was nice with traditional shopping and
they got the opportunity to meet the friendly locals. for lunch, the group
enjoyed a bbq (brai), sudanese style and were enjoying their day. later,
they went by speedboat to both the blue and white nile to collect water.
this will be poured into the ocean (along with the water collected from the
arabian gulf. see day 01) at cape point at the end of their journey.
home base 9:30pm:
tonight, the johnstones are enjoying a fish bbq at their campsite, eating a
fish caught by one of the locals. |
