home base: after leaving at 3:30pm on june 22nd from khobar, the families drove all night towards jeddah, stopping for 3 hours to allow the drivers to get some sleep. upon arriving in taif at 9:00 am, they were informed that the ferry to sudan is leaving early. they are running against the clock to buy the tickets before the office closes at 11:00 am, and to ensure that they stay on schedule.
home base: 6:10pm june 23rd - after a long drive to jeddah, the families finally obtained their tickets and are on the ferry al-salaam 98, bound for suakin, sudan. frustrations were high as the process was "very lengthy, disorganized, chaotic and lots of middle men trying to get their share". alhamdulillah, all are onboard, very tired but looking forward to reaching african soil. the ferry departs at 10:00pm. keep posted for more updates as they arrive. |
