we are currently slowly going through the preparations. strangely, most conversations will eventually steer to the same subject. our houses are strewn around with maps and lonely planet books and other magazines. we have a few minor expeditions planned, taking advantage of the short cool period. malaika, our land cruiser, will be fitted with the dual battery management system in riyadh. 8th June 2005 most of our preparation are done. the thuraya satellite phone is working like a dream, its main feature of sending a sms with gps coordinates is brilliant, as we plan to use this info to update this site twice daily. we are however, facing a serious problem of trying get a travel permission letter for our vehicles for sudan. the sudanese embassy in riyadh is helping us out on this, hope to get it before we depart. visas for ethiopia will be obtained this week, however the visas for sudan will have to be extended since they were issued with the expiration date of before the trip !! - pays to check ! 18th June 2005 final flurry of activities. planning to leave from the khobar corniche at 3.00pm on wednesday.
